Success. Success. Success ……
A word that we hear echoed from our youth into adulthood. Throughout our personal and professional development, the word success has become one of the key driving forces for many of us. But what is true success? We chase it, compare ourselves to others by it, and sometimes feel crushed beneath its weight. But what if the very idea of success you’ve been pursuing is built on lies?
If we follow today’s criteria of success it may seem like a moving target. There is always someone who will have more than us in some shape or form. I believe that the enemy feeds us with lives to constantly make us feel unfulfilled and dissatisfied with our present situation and try to prevent us from seeing the truth of God and what true success really is.
Now don’t get me wrong, God wants us to work hard, develop our talents, build wealth, create institutions and successful businesses but with the understanding that true success comes with obedience to Him. He doesn’t condemn wealth creation, but the scripture often cautions us against the love of money and the deceitfulness of riches. So let us continue working diligently, be of good repute, integrity and seek to make an impact wherever we are on our journey. And use our gifts and resources for the advancement of God’s kingdom and the benefit of others.
Here are some of the 5 biggest lies the enemy tells us about success — and how to replace them with Truth.
The 5 Lies the Enemy Tells Us About Success
Lie #1: You Are What You Earn
Lie: Your station in life, net worth, the car you drive all determines how valuable you are.
Truth: God’s love for us in unconditional. We can’t buy it or earn it. It is given to us freely without conditions (Ephesians 2: 4-5)
Lie #2: The busier you are, the more successful you will be
Lie: Keep grinding yourself in work, don’t rest. Stay ahead of the competition
Truth: Your peace is more valuable than your pace. And guess what? The world won’t fall apart if you take a break. Philippians 4:6 urges us to not be anxious about anything. But through prayer and petition we put our requests to God. So be patient and wait on God’s timing. You are where you need to be until God says otherwise.
Lie #3: Your past determines your future
Lie: You’ve made too many mistakes. God can’t use someone like you.
Truth: Throughout history we have seen how God uses “imperfect” people to change the course of history. Moses was a murderer. David was an adulterer. Peter denied Jesus three times. And God still used them in amazing ways. He can and will use you too to fulfill his plans and purpose.
Lie #4: Popularity = Purpose
Lie: If you’re not getting likes, followers, or applause on social media you’re failing in life
Truth: You could be doing exactly what God called you to do. He has a plan and roadmap for everyone of us, if we choose to be obedient and trust His guidance.
Lie #5: If It’s taking too long, It’s not for You
Lie: God forgot about you. It’s never going to happen.
Truth: God’s timing is always perfect — even when it feels painfully slow.
He’s not ignoring you, He’s preparing you.
The waiting is where He shapes your character, sharpens your faith, and sets the stage for something better than you imagined.
